Toscanini was the teacher of Dr. Walter Ducloux, one of my important conducting and music teachers and mentors. Dr. Ducloux was Toscanini’s assistant at the Lucerne Music Festival before Toscanini came to America. He then brought Dr. Ducloux to New York to be his assistant at the NBC Symphony. So it will be a very nostalgic moment for me to conduct the U.S. premiere of Michael’s work ‘Radio City.’
